Das „Gläserne Labor“ des Syntopischen Salons befindet sich auf dem Gelände der LMU München in der Goethestr. 31 – und damit bewusst an der Schnittstelle zum öffentlichen Raum des Bahnhofsviertels.
The Syntopic Laboratory facilities are located on the site of Ludwig Maximilian University in Goethestreet 31 – at the interface with public space. It creates the possibility of participation of the district. The Building behind THE SALON is hosting Departments of Immunology, Pharmacology, Medical Psychology and its traditional campus life should be an input for interdisciplinary processes bringing science to the public and vice versa.
Das gläserne Labor schafft die Möglichkeit einer Partizipation des Stadtteils an den aktuell vor Ort stattfindenden Prozessen zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft, sowie umgekehrt die Möglichkeit des Zusammenwirkens der jeweiligen Aktion im Labor mit dem Raum der Straße. In Form eines gläsernen, 3,3 x 2,5 x 2,5 Meter großen, flexiblen und per LKW transportierbaren Quaders – ist das Labor sowohl Schaukasten für Experimente, als auch selbst Teil des Prozesses.
Das gläserne Labor des Syntopischen Salons ist ganzjährig, Tag und Nacht transparent und einsehbar. Es gibt keine Schwelle, an welcher kontrolliert wird, wer was wie wann wahrnimmt.
The transparent cubicle is surrounded by very old trees and in front there is one of the biggest Turkish bakeries in Munich. THE LAB is a transparent cubicle, 3.3 x 2.5 x 2.5 meters wide, flexible and transportable by truck. The LAB should be both a showcase for experimentation and even part of the process. The Lab is open all year, day and night.

Im gläsernen Labor steht ein rostroter Ohrensessel. Der Sessel verweist auf die Lücke, auf den, der dort sitzen könnte. Seiner Funktion entsprechend, -den Körper bequem zu lagern und den Geist fliegen zu lassen- ist er eine Einladung für jeden, Platz zu nehmen. Der Sessel bringt den Innenraum nach aussen.
Um den Ohrensessel herum erzeugen Aktionen und Interventionen den Raum, für den das gläserne Labor die architektonische Hülle bietet.
Dadurch wird die „Lücke“ zum Lebensraum und die Stadt ein Ort für Menschen, nicht für Gebäude.
The WING CHAIR refers to the open space which could be used by the public. It is an open invitation to sit down comfortably and let the spirit fly in the tradition of the historical SALON concept, which also brought together artists, debates and viewpoints. The wing chair brings the interior to the outside, he was chosen to represent the SYNTOPIC SALON at other cultural places in Munich and all activities and interventions placed in the cubicle took advantage of him. While planning the SYNTOPIC SALON the curators had the concept of processwork in mind, the architectural shell could be adapted to the wishes and ideas of the presenter. Here is the city a place for people, directly shaped by people to their needs not by buildings. THE SITE of Syntopic SALON is inspired by the idea of preserving GAPs in the city. Die Idee des Erhalts der „Lücke im Stadtraum“ ist die Basis des Syntopischen Salons. Die entsprechende Briefkastenadresse an der Goethestrasse 31 lautet: g.a.p.-ground.
Dieser Ort, in städteplanerischer Hinsicht ein Unort, ist dadurch geprägt, dass hier räumlich gesehen die internationale (vornehmlich deutsch-türkisch) Einkaufsstraße und Gastronomie des südlichen Bahnhofsviertels mit den Forschungsstätten des Instituts für medizinische Psychologie der LMU zusammentreffen.
Durch die temporäre urbane Intervention von gläsernem Labor und Ohrensessel bleibt der g.a.p.-ground als „Lücke im Stadtraum“ sichtbar.
Über die Aktivitäten des Syntopischen Salons steht der Ort des g.a.p.-grounds im weltweiten Zusammenhang mit Orten, an welchen ähnliche kulturelle Anstöße ermöglicht werden.
